8-year-old Cedar Falls boy dies in ATV accident

Micah Jones was driving a Mudhead Hammerhead ATV in a rural Cedar Falls farm yard in Grundy County shortly before noon when it went over a retaining wall and flipped over, according to the Grundy County Sheriff's Office.Jones was taken to Sartori Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries.Passenger Charlie Stewart, 8, of Cedar Falls, was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo for treatment of minor injuries.Funeral arrangements for Jones, the son of James and Jodi Huffman Jones, are being handled by Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.The accident remains under investigation.

Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.He was born March 15, 1954, in Clinton, son of John and Marion Vergenz Richards. He married Heather Lawrence on April 9, 1979, in Republic, Mich.He earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Iowa. Scott was an English teacher in the King William County, Virginia, school district for six years and at Cedar Falls High School for many years. Recently, he had his poem, “Spring Thaw,” published in the Spring 2016 issue of the North American Review.Survived by: his wife, Heather Lawrence-Richards; three sons, Nate of Des Moines, Tim (Brooke) of Cedar Falls and Alex of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a grandchild, Michael Lawrence-Richards of Cedar Falls; his mother, Marion Richards of Mason City; and three brothers, Mark Richards of Solon, Judd (Linda) Richards of Hague, Va., and Jay (Karla) Richards of Woodland Park, Colo.Preceded in death by: his father; and his father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Helen Lawrence.Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where there will be a 5 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. vigil service conducted.Memorials: may be directed to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank or Cedar Valley Hospice.
